How we got these. Fixerlane does not set prices and these are not our figures. They are the ranges published by Angi, HomeGuide and This Old House, read from each page on October 4, 2026 and linked so you can check them. Each publisher measures differently, so the ranges do not always agree. Your quote depends on your home, your area and the exact job — the things below are what move it.
Where the sources disagree
- Hourly rate per cleaner: Angi says $25–$50; HomeGuide says $25–$75. (Angi, HomeGuide)
- Move-out cleaning: Angi's move-out page says $120–$420, but its house-cleaning page says move-out can cost up to $500. (Angi move-out, Angi house cleaning)
- Deep cleaning: Angi and Fixr say $200–$400; HomeGuide says $230–$600. (Angi, Fixr, HomeGuide)
What changes the price
- Bedrooms, bathrooms and square footage — bathrooms and kitchens take the most time
- Type of clean: standard, deep, or move-in / move-out in an empty home
- Frequency: weekly and biweekly visits usually cost less per visit than one-off cleans
- Add-ons such as inside the oven or fridge, interior windows and carpets
- Pets, clutter and how long since the home was last cleaned

How pros quote
Fixed price
The scope is clear enough to put a number on the whole job. The risk of it running long sits with the pro, which is why they will want the scope pinned down first.
Hourly or day rate
Used where nobody yet knows what is wrong, or the work is open-ended. Fair for diagnosis; a warning sign on a job that could have been specified.
Per unit
Priced by square foot, per fixture, per window. Easy to compare between pros — as long as you check what a "unit" includes.
Call-out plus work
A fixed fee to attend, then the job on top. Common for emergency and repair work. Ask whether the call-out comes off the final bill.
Comparing quotes fairly
Two quotes are only comparable if they cover the same job. Before you judge on price, check each one states:
- The scope, in plain words rather than a trade shorthand
- Which materials are included, and who supplies them
- Whether disposal and clean-up are in the price
- Making good afterwards — patching, painting, reinstating
- The payment schedule, tied to visible milestones
- A start date and a realistic finish window
- What happens if something unexpected is found
A quote well below the others is usually a smaller job, not a better deal. Ask what it excludes before assuming it is the bargain.
What the house cleaning market looks like
Fixerlane lists house cleaning pros across 51 states and 6,116 cities. About 23% are one-person businesses and 71% are small teams of two to nine. The typical business has been trading 5 years.
That mix matters for price. A sole trader carries lower overheads and is often cheaper for a small job; a larger firm can field a crew, carry more insurance and start sooner on a big one. Neither is better — they suit different work.
Common questions
- How long does a house cleaning visit take?
- It depends on the size of the home, the type of clean and how many cleaners come. Ask the company how many people and hours they are quoting for — two cleaners for two hours is four hours of work.
- What does a move-out clean include that a normal clean does not?
- It is done in an empty home and goes inside cabinets, closets and appliances, and along baseboards and walls that furniture usually hides. Check the list against your lease, since the point is getting your deposit back.
- Can a landlord charge my deposit for cleaning?
- In many states a landlord can deduct the cost of returning the unit to the condition it was in when you moved in, less ordinary wear and tear. Rules and deadlines differ by state, so check yours, and photograph the unit when you leave.
- Should the same cleaner come every time?
- Ask for it. A regular cleaner learns your home and gets faster, and you know who has your key. Many companies will try to keep the same person on a recurring booking.
