What the badges mean
A badge on a listing means the business sent Fixerlane a document — a registration, a license, an insurance certificate, an ID or a background check — and Fixerlane staff reviewed it and approved it. Each document earns one badge.
Before you rely on one
- A badge is not a guarantee of the work. It tells you what a business showed us, not how well it will do your job. Get a written quote, ask questions, and check reviews as you would anywhere.
- Badges come off by themselves. When a license, insurance policy or other document expires, its badge disappears from the listing until the business sends us the renewal and we approve it.
- No badge is not a bad sign. Many listings were compiled from public sources, and those businesses have not sent us anything yet. Some trades do not need a license in every state.
- Documents stay private. We never publish them. The only detail shown is a license number and the state that issued it, so you can look the license up yourself.
Fixerlane Verified
- What the business showed
- The business gave us all four core documents: proof it is a registered business, a trade or contractor license, a general liability insurance certificate, and the owner’s government photo ID.
- How it was checked
- Fixerlane staff reviewed each one and approved all four.
- When it comes off
- It comes off as soon as any one of those four documents expires or is no longer approved. A background check is not part of it — that has its own badge.
Registered business
- What the business showed
- Proof the business is legally registered — for example LLC or corporation papers, a state business registration, a DBA filing, or an IRS EIN letter.
- How it was checked
- Fixerlane staff compared the document with the business’s name and details.
- When it comes off
- If the registration has an end date, the badge comes off when it passes.
Licensed
- What the business showed
- A current state or local contractor or trade license. The badge shows the license number and the state or authority that issued it, so you can look it up yourself.
- How it was checked
- Fixerlane staff checked the license document and its expiry date.
- When it comes off
- The badge comes off automatically on the day after the license expires, until a renewed license is approved.
Insured
- What the business showed
- A general liability insurance certificate for the business.
- How it was checked
- Fixerlane staff checked the certificate and its expiry date.
- When it comes off
- The badge comes off automatically when the policy’s end date passes, until a renewed certificate is approved.
ID verified
- What the business showed
- The owner’s government-issued photo ID.
- How it was checked
- Fixerlane staff checked it against the owner’s account. We keep only the decision and the name on the ID — the image is deleted once it has been reviewed.
- When it comes off
- If the ID expires, the badge comes off.
Background checked
- What the business showed
- A background-check report on the owner, from a screening provider of their choice, dated within the last 12 months.
- How it was checked
- Fixerlane staff reviewed the report. The report itself is deleted once it has been reviewed.
- When it comes off
- The badge lasts 12 months from the date on the report, then comes off until a new report is approved.
